Community Care

Community Care Tips:

🐱How to Help Community Cats:

If you've encountered a stray cat and want to help, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Provide food and water in a safe, quiet area, and keep the feeding station clean and tidy. Clear plastic containers or fast food bowls work well.
  • Only put out enough food for the number of cats, typically 1/2 to 3/4 cup per cat, and consider offering canned food in addition to dry food.
  • Clean, fresh water is a must.
  • Once you've established regular care, start planning to spay or neuter the cats. Determine whether a trap or carrier is necessary to transport them safely.
  • Never trap a cat without a vet appointment lined up, and never leave traps set unattended, as it can be dangerous.
  • Cover the cat once trapped using a sheet or towel to help calm it down.
  • Provide safe, climate-controlled housing for the cats before and after surgery, especially during extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid spaying a nursing mother if she is full of milk to prevent the risk of mastitis and being separated from her kittens for too long.
  • Remember that feeding and fixing community cats are equally important and that these cats don't belong to rescue groups. They need help from all of us.
