Meet Miracle

  • Meet Miracle, and it is indeed a miracle that she is alive and well today - Thanks to the efforts of the Azalea City Cat Coalition. Miracle was found by volunteers eating out of a dumpster probably after being left by an unkind owner. Miracle was scrounging for food and trying to dodge cars in a busy parking lot all the while her eye was protruding from her head. Miracle was trapped and it was initially thought best that she be humanely euthanized due to her horrible condition as she was found to not only have an eye injury but also gaping wounds to her neck and face. The Director of Azalea City Cat Coalition would not have any of that and opted to have her transferred to Bay Animal Clinic in Spanish Fort where Dr Dawn Hoover made a determination that she was a tame kitty and after testing her for communicable diseases, for which she was negative (yaye!) felt confident that she could save this poor little creature, and she did!!!!! Miracle made a great recovery and was happy and playful for many weeks, however she became ill again. Miracle would not eat or drink, she was unable to use her litter box and this lasted for over a week. Two veterinarians did not see a good outlook for little Miracle, but her foster mother would not give up, in her opinion Miracle had not come this far to give up now, so she did everything she could with the help of Dr Schindler at Eastern Shore Pet Hospital and little Miracle pulled through a second time! Miracle now has a wonderful life in the home of that same ACCC volunteer while she looks for her own forever home! Miracle is now known a Mirrie Bunny as she hops and plays just like a little rabbit! This is just one of the many stories of the many rescues ACCC does in their efforts to Trap Neuter Return the stray and feral cat population of Mobile county!

  • Arrows' Story: The Perfect End to a Tragic Event

Azalea City Cat Coalition is a group of dedicated volunteers. During a routine feeding, Sharon, a volunteer, was caring for the Municipal Park Cats when she noticed a Russian Blue mix cowering in the storm drain with a bright green arrow protruding from his chest. She quickly called for help and assistance.

Volunteers Ann, Debbie, Thornton, Nin and Sharon set up 3 hour watches. All attempts to trap "Arrow" the cat failed by day three. Finally on the fourth day, Mobile City Animal Control assisted with his capture. Arrow was rushed to the veterinarian with a temp of 106 degrees. Finally their diligence paid off. Arrow’s injuries were treated over a three month period. The feral cat went to live with Susan, the founder of the Coalition, for rest and recuperation!

In March of 2010, at a Rally to Rescue Adoption event, some lucky Azalea City Cat ambassadors met Barbara Winkler, who inquired about Arrow. When she learned that he was up for adoption she quickly filed an application. The perfect home had been found for a cat that once lived in the drains.

Arrow now enjoys sun bathing on his screened in porch and has a new feline family and human guardian. Barbara is amazed at what a gentle cat Arrow is. "He is learning to trust again," she says, and that makes it all worth while.
